Each [artist] wrestled with the tension between form and content, teasing out new possibilities while exposing the challenges imbedded in abstraction. From a completely formalist perspective, both artists are highly skilled at manipulating their chosen medium to highlight wonderful connections between line, form, colour, and scale.
Engaging in a fine balance between intuition and intellect, each artist strives to connect with the experience of being in the everyday world while at the same time attempting to pierce into something more spiritual or essential. From each of their own subjective areas of human experience comes a commitment to abstraction that moves beyond formal considerations and is revealed through active looking.
