Coming out of minimalism, much of my work made the animal subject a vehicle for the viewer, both separate and equal. Over time, getting that relationship right often meant the investigation of vessels more broadly: from solid to porous bodies, these investigations ranged through various scales and densities. In a gathering of jostling relationships, Field Notes anticipates the impact of each potential vehicle in the world. – John McEwen, 2025
